Boy Crush

Mama’s Losin’ It
This entry was a prompt on the Mama's losin' it website.
A boy you had a crush on...where is he now?

In middle school I had a crush on Monroe. He wasn't the cutest, smartest, most athletic or charming, but I was a naive 6th or 7th grader so what did I know? Actually, I think I liked him because he wasn't in the popular crowd and neither was I. At the time, I figured he was more my speed. At our middle school dance his friend, a more popular type, told Monroe I liked him. I heard him say, "She couldn't be my girlfriend. She's too short!" How dare he! He was often picked on for being short. My feelings were hurt (as you probably realize since I'm still talking about it decades later).

Mature me realizes he had a right to be picky and stick to his preferences.

Immature me observed that he didn't manage to get a girlfriend in middle school and is still single to this day. Serves him right for dissing me! Sucka!

Humm.. that was embarrassing.

I really need to exercise that forgiveness muscle.

  1. Awesome! I almost posted about my junior high crush for the prompt, but it was so mortifying to go back there that I picked a different one. Good for you!! And I seriously love the 'immature me' line!

  2. hi! Visiting from Mama Kat's.

Dumb ol' boys - they never know a good thing when they see one do they? Especially in junior high!

  3. Too short? As a fellow vertically challenged person I protest! That's his issue. Many tall men love petite women.

  4. He missed out on what could have been the greatest love of his life because he didn't like petite women! Well, that's his loss. I agree with Amanda that many tall men love petite women. They say it's sexier.
