I can freakin' do this!

My Stupid Crazy Workout (aka Insanity) Day 12

During the Cardio Power and Resistance workout, Shaun T tells me, "You can freakin' do this!". Actually, he was talking to one on the people working out with him in the video but I pretend he is talking to me. I find it helpful to repeat the quote to myself during the workout because the exercises are so freakin' hard. I need the encouragement to push, though Shaun ( yes we are now on a first name basis) also yells ,"Push!!!" several times during every workout video.

Frequently Asked Questions:
(Questions I get when I tell people I'm doing this stupid crazy workout)

Q: Do you like it?
A: Yes & no; The program includes really hard exercises and a demanding 6 day a week schedule. It leaves me sore in places I didn't even know had muscles. The workout is so hard, I don't know if I'll ever be able do the whole warmup exercise all the way through (without stopping to rest) before the end of the 8-week program.

I don't like facing the fact that I've let myself get so out of shape. I don't like looking at those skinny women in the video with perfect abs and slim thighs. Yeah, I'm hating! Tell me one of those women had three kids and managed to look that good without surgery, then I'll be impressed and not hate. Is that wrong?

Having said that, I like that I can know my exercise is making a difference. I am sore somewhere everyday because I'm pushing my body to do something out of the ordinary. By "ordinary" I mean my previously sedentary lifestyle.

I believe the claims I see online of people who have transformed their bodies from flab to fab in 60 days. If I can just get a portion of their results, I'll be successful. I really really like that I am doing something that I believe will make my body look better. That's what keeps me going.

Q: What are these crazy exercise moves you speak of?
A:
Push up jacks (not me)

V push ups (not me either)

Then there's one series where from standing position, you bend your knees to touch hands to floor, jump into plank position do some pushups, run for 8 counts in plank position, snap your knees and feet under your chest and jump up to a standing position - now repeat
Crazy right? I know.

Q: Is it working?
A: At this point I've only lost 2 pounds but I'm aiming to lose 12 so that's what 9% of my goal? I can tell that I'm building endurance and strength. I'm able to do more of the workout DVD than I could at the very beginning. I didn't do pushups at all before this and now I can. I can't do a lot of them yet, but I can do them now.

I think I feel a little bit of a difference in the fit of my pants. It's still early in the program, I do my second fit test on Monday & I'm expecting that will show some tangible improvement.

Q: You aren't trying to lose that much, why are you doing this?
A: I'm striving to be my best me. I believe I can look and feel better. I used to be fit. I was into gymnastics as a kid and I took gymnastics in college. Now, I'm so far from where I think I should be.

Also, I'm not where I want to be career-wise and I'm not sure what to do to correct my path right now. So while I don't know what to do to correct that situation, I'll focus on something I know how to do- improve my body.

Finally, my husband and I are celebrating 15 years of marriage this July and one of the gifts we are giving each other is good health. That means, we get in all of our doctor appointments, avoid behaviors that are bad for our health and improve our bodies. Why? Because unfortunately, its easier to follow through on this stuff if I do it for someone else.

I can freakin' do this!
