Stranger: Wow! What's that ultra cool device you are using that makes you look so trendy, productive and technologically advanced.
Me: Oh this is the iPad (hear the angels singing-see the sunlight illuminate the device)
Stranger: Man I've never seen one in person can I try it.
Me: Sure, let me show you what it can do.....
Conversation with a stranger (1 day ago):
Stranger: Hey I've never seen an iPad before, is that the NEW iPad?
Me: Ah, no.
Stranger: <In a "too bad" tone> Oh. < walks away uninterested>
Me: <watching them walk away I silently scream> This baby isn't even 1 year old! It's practically new. It's still cool. Really....
Ah yes. The candy store of my adulthood has done it again. I knew they would but this fact never deters me from being an early adopter. Which ALWAYS leads me to being disappointed when they release the next best thing a few months later. See I need to be a rich Apple groupie so I can afford to keep up with each new release. But alas I am not. I must tote my "old" device proudly and ignore the strangers who perceive my still-new toy as old news. I am excited about the new release yet disappointed that I can't have one.
Damn you Apple! I love you still.
See "What it's like to own an Apple Product" by The Oatmeal. It truly speaks to my situation.
