Closet Bad@$$/midlife crisis

I'm going on 37 years old and I'm just now getting an unusual body piercing.
Ok ok an ear piercing isn't *that* bad for most people but it is definitely a step away from the usual for me.
I did this hours ago and just cleaned the area for the night. Now it's burning a bit. I'm supposed to cleanse the area with saline solution twice a day for 2 weeks.
This is not the ring I had in mind but the piercer insisted that this thing causes faster healing than the stud.
I haven't yet learned all the jargon for this thing I did, but while looking for some jewelry to replace this silver-hoop-with-ball (aka captive bead ring) I realized there is a learning curve that comes with ear cartilage piercing. Apparently, I can purchase a labret (with a jewel) or a segment ring (same as what I have without the bead). If my bead is captive on the ring I must be able to find a non-captive bead on a ring. I can buy dangling or "Helix" ear jewelry too.  Who knew?!  Oh and piece of jewelry has a gadge which I think refers to the circumference of the earring's bar section. Whew! So much to learn. More later!
